Thursday Movie: Drive Back Home

Drive Back Home is Canadian director Mike Clowater's heart wrenching, realistic debut set in the winter of 1970. Weldon (Charlie Creed-Miles), a cantankerous, small-town plumber from rural New Brunswick, gets a call from the Toronto police in the middle of the night. He must bail his estranged, gay brother Perley (Alan Cumming) out of jail after Perley got arrested for having sex with a man in a public park. Weldon must drive his beat-up work truck 1000 miles to Toronto to pick Perley up and bring him back to their childhood home, a journey that changes both of them. Clowater based his characters loosely on his uncle and grandfather.
