This event is presented in partnership with A Capital Mystery.
This panel brings together contributing authors from A Capital Mystery, for an engaging discussion on the craft of short fiction. A Capital Mystery is an acclaimed anthology of crime, mystery, and suspense stories inspired by Ottawa’s streets, neighbourhoods, and hidden corners.
Moderated by A Capital Mystery co-editor Mike Martin, the conversation will explore the craft of short fiction, the unique challenges and freedoms of the short story form, and the powerful role of place and lived experience in shaping compelling narratives. Panelists will share insights into their creative processes and reflect on why the short story remains a vital and enduring literary form.
Participating authors include:
-
Jennifer Jorgensen, award-winning short story writer whose work has appeared in On the Premises, Daily Science Fiction, and multiple anthologies
-
Nancy Pawalek, writer and facilitator of community-based writing programs, including life writing and library workshops
-
A. E. (Art) Pittman, emerging author whose fiction is informed by his experience as a lawyer and police officer
The event will conclude with a moderated audience Q&A, followed by a Meet & Greet with the authors, offering attendees the opportunity to continue the conversation in an informal setting.
Light refreshments will be served, and guests are invited to connect with the writers, discuss their work, and celebrate Ottawa’s vibrant storytelling community.
